Is This A Recipe for World War III?
Events are moving quickly in the Middle East, and in troubling directions.
Recent news reports reveal that Turkish and Saudi Arabian troops are poised to directly enter the conflict in Syria on the side of Sunni forces attempting to overthrow the Shiite-backed Syrian dictator, Assad. Some of these militias have been receiving arms and logistical support from the United States and its NATO allies.
Meanwhile, Assad is backed by a growing Russian military presence as well as the Iran-backed forces of Hezbollah.
In the middle of all this chaos sits ISIS, a group now believed to possess and to have already used chemical weapons. More than one astute observer has described this as a recipe for World War III.
As I’ve mentioned here in the past, the horrifically bloody and tragic conflict in Syria is merely the most visible manifestation of the wider struggle for dominance in the Middle East between the Sunni and Shia branches of Islam.
Of course, both factions are virulent enemies of Israel and are filled with leaders sworn to see “the Zionist entity,” as they call it, wiped from the map and the Jewish People driven into the sea.
