Though the protests in Ukraine against the government have dominated news coverage from the country in recent days, Jewish People living there have found themselves targeted as well. The Giymat Rosa Synagogue in the Ukrainian town of Zaporizhia, 250 miles southeast of Kiev, was firebombed earlier this week. Thankfully the synagogue was not seriously damaged and no one was injured in the attack.
In response to this and other threats and attacks, the head of the European Jewish Association, Rabbi Menachem Margolin, has written to Prime Minister Netanyahu with an urgent request to “send trained security guards to protect Jewish communities in Ukrainian cities and towns.” Natan Sharansky, the famed Russian dissident who now heads the Jewish Agency, has announced that his group is raising funds to improve security for the estimated 400,000 Jewish people who live in Ukraine.
This latest outbreak of anti-Semitism is a grim reminder that it is not just in Israel that Jews are being targeted by their enemies. Yet the threat to the residents of Israel continues to increase as well. The recent military strike by Israeli jets on a Hezbollah base in southern Lebanon that appears to have been aimed at destroying a shipment of advanced missiles has sparked threats of reprisal. And the stalled peace talks have been accompanied by a rise in terrorist attacks and threats as well.
For those of us who love and support the Jewish People, the message in the headlines is clear—we must do even more to encourage and help them in every way that we can. That is why Jewish Voice has partnered with more than two dozen ministries on the ground in Israel to do everything we can to meet the urgent needs of the people and show them the love of Yeshua in action. Your contribution today makes it possible for us to continue to touch the lives of so many people. Thank you for standing with us and with the Jewish People in these difficult days. God bless you.
