Jewish Festivals and Feasts are always a wonderful time to lift up prayers for Jewish People in Israel and around the world to come to know Yeshua, as many of them will be focused and attuned to the same thoughts, themes and even scriptures. Shavuot, falling 50 days after First Fruits, is no exception. It is purposefully connected to Passover, and has no set date of its own. Passover determines when First Fruits will be and First Fruits in turn determines when Shavuot will be. You cannot set the date of Shavuot apart from Passover, the redemptive story of the Exodus out of Egypt, and the foretelling of Yeshua, our Passover Lamb.
Shavuot 2014
Shavuot begins on the evening of June 3rd this year and ends on the evening of June 5th. It is a time of gratitude and thanksgiving, and was originally an agricultural festival. It is now revered and observed as coinciding with the day that the Lord gave Moses the Law, or Torah. This is a reminder of Yeshua, the Living Word. In addition it is said to be the day on which King David died – another connection to the Son of David, our King of Kings, who conquered death forever!
Shavuot is also called Pentecost, meaning “fifty,” which is a reference to the number of days between Passover and Shavuot. It was on Shavuot, or Pentecost, that the early Believers gathered together in one place and experienced the filling of the Holy Spirit – the birth of the Church recorded in Acts 2. Although centuries apart, it is no coincidence that the giving of the Law and the coming of the Spirit occurred on the same day!
Connections between Old and New Testaments - inspires prayers
God uses our prayers. Please pray that by the wonderful working and manifestation of the Holy Spirit, the truths of the Torah and Book of Ruth will be used to illuminate man’s need and God’s provision of our Kinsman-Redeemer, Yeshua. May Jeremiah 31:33 see fulfillment in many Jewish People this Shavuot as God’s law through the Living Word, Yeshua, is written on their hearts by the Holy Spirit through salvation.
