Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: “May those who love you be secure. May there be peace within your walls and security within your citadels.”
Psalm 122:6-7
A citadel is defined as a strategically fortified place or stronghold which is able to serve as “command central” in times of strife, attack, and war. Understanding this military or governmental description is an encouragement to pray for the corresponding seats of authority in Israel. Our prayers include the governing authorities, civil institutions, and the military, that they be secure and provide outstanding leadership. We pray for the buildings, areas, technologies and equipment in and through which these organizations operate. We pray for these leaders and groups to be operating in unity, receiving good intelligence, interpreting it correctly, and responding at all times with wisdom and foresight, having all the resources in place to meet the need of the hour, thus maintaining security and peace for all those within Israel’s borders.
A spiritual citadel
As important as this is, we also know that from a spiritual standpoint, the place of ultimate security is referred to in Proverbs 18:10, which says, The name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Psalm 46, Psalm 91 and elsewhere in Scripture also assure us of the protective refuge the Lord provides. HE, God Himself, declares that He is the refuge, protector, and shelter of all those who trust and abide in Him.
Prayers for Israel's security, physical and spiritual
May Israel not only be strongly protected by their government and military, but may they rest even more securely in the presence of their God through personal faith in Yeshua. And may those of us who love and pray faithfully for Jerusalem and Israel receive the blessing and promise of Scripture and also rest securely in the steadfast love and protective presence of the Lord!
