She couldn’t see, and her eyes hurt terribly. Argash had trachoma, a highly contagious disease that if left untreated can cause rough scarring inside the eyelid. Trachoma is very painful and is the leading cause of preventable blindness in the world.
Argash came to us for help. In a makeshift examination room of the Jewish Voice Gondar clinic, Dr. Yemi took away Argash’s pain and gave back her sight. “I am so happy,” Argash said the next morning at her follow-up appointment. Thinking beyond herself she added, “This medicine needs to be for all of Ethiopia. There are many people with eye problems.”
If only we could do the same for everyone in Ethiopia! We are going back to Gondar, and we hope to bring even more doctors, dentists, medical professionals, and other outreach partners with us than last year!
